BMEGG Student Research Symposium 2022

The 11th annual BMEGG Student Research Symposium was held on Friday, May 13th.  Dr. Katherine Ferrara, Professor of Radiology and the Division Chief for the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford University, provided the keynote address titled "Career experiences of an Industrial Project Engineer, Biomedical Engineering Department Chair and Department of Radiology Division Chief". Current graduate students delivered 8 podium presentations, 23 poster presentations, and 3 science communication videos (a new category).

Yiran Wang receives 2021 IEEE NPSS Christopher J. Thompson Student Paper Award

Yiran Wang, Ph.D. Candidate in Biomedical Engineering, received the 2021 IEEE NPSS Christopher J. Thompson Student Paper Award for his paper:

Virtual BMEGG Student Research Symposium 2021

The 10th annual (Virtual) BMEGG Student Research Symposium was held on Friday, May 21st.  Dr. Amy Herr, Professor of Bioengineering at UC Berkeley and Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub Investigator, provided the keynote address titled "Advancing Biomedicine Using Microsystems Design". Current graduate students delivered 8 podium presentations and 16 poster presentations. We hosted a panel session with distinguished UC Davis educators on diversity, equity, and inclusion. There was lively discussion among the students and faculty during the virtual poster session.

Virtual BMEGG Student Research Symposium 2020

The Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group hosted our first virtual student organized BMEGG Student Research Symposium on May 29, 2020.  Thank you to our keynote, Dr. Joan Greve (NIBIB) for the excellent talk on "Creating a Vision Statement for your Life", as well as your participation on our Career Panel. Thank you to our other insightful Career Panelists, Dr. Ella Jones (UCSF), Dr. Zidong Li (Verily Life Sciences), and Dr. Debika Mitra (Profusa). Congratulations to Abby Niesen (Best Student Research Presentation) and Jun Zhu (Best Rapid-Fire Presentation) and to all other presenters.

BMEGG Student Research Symposium 2019

The 8th annual BMEGG Student Research Symposium was held on Friday, April 26th. Professor Elliot Botvinivk from UC Irvine delivered the Keynote address. The students provided 8 podium presentations and 24 poster presentations. We added an Industry Panel with 5 guests from the Bay Area. There was lively discussion among the students, faculty and visitors during the poster sessions and during the various breaks. BMEGG Student Research Symposium 2018

The 7th annual BMEGG Student Research Symposium was held on Friday, May 4th.  Professor Jason Zara from George Washington University delivered the Keynote address. The students provided 8 podium presentations and 27 poster presentations.  There was lively discussion among the students, faculty and visitors during the poster sessions and during the various breaks.  We congratulate all students for an excellent job their high-quality presentations.  The following students were voted to receive special recognition for their presentations:

BMEGG Student Research Conference 2017

On May 19th we hosted the 6th Annual UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group Student Research Conference. Our keynote speaker, Professor Claudia Fischbach from Cornell University, gave a wonderful talk highlighting her career path and the need for interdisciplinary, collaborative research. The day was well-attended by students at all levels, along with many faculty, and the quality of research displayed in the oral and poster presentations was truly impressive.

BMEGG Student Research Conference 2016

May 19, 2016 marked our 5th annual Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group Student Research Conference.  Dean and Vice Chancellor Julie Freischlag opened the conference with a motivating Keynote Address on achieving career satisfaction in the health sciences.  The day was well-attended by students at all levels, and the quality of research displayed in the oral and poster presentations was truly impressive.

BMEGG Student Research Conference 2015

Our 4th annual Biomedical Engineering Graduate Group Student Research Conference, held on May 15, 2015, was a wonderful day of research and discussion highlighting our outstanding students.  Professor Victor Barocas from the University of Minnesota kicked off the event with a terrific plenary talk. The day was well-attended by students at all levels, and the quality of research displayed in the oral and poster presentations was truly impressive.

Nicole De Jesus has a recent publication in Circulation Research

Nicole De Jesus, Ph.D. Candidate in Biomedical Engineering, and Ripplinger Lab colleagues have a new publication in Circulation Research titled “Optical Mapping of Sarcoplasmic Reticulum Ca2+ in the Intact Heart: Ryanodine Receptor Refractoriness During Alternans and Fibrillation.”
