Shahin Shams receives 2020 BMEGG Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Shahin Shams has been selected as the winner of the 2020 BMEGG Outstanding Graduate Student Award.  This award recognizes a student for outstanding: success in the class room, achievements in research, mentoring, engagement in BMEGG activities, community outreach and any other noteworthy activities.

Jun Zhu awarded SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship

Jun Zhu has been awarded a 2020 Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for her potential contributions to the field of optics, photonics or related field. Jun is a fourth-year PhD Candidate in the Neurophotonics Lab led by Professor Vivek Srinivasan. The Neurophotonics Lab develops new light-based technologies for in vivo imaging and sensing of the brain and eye.

Jackie Woods receives 2019 BMEGG Outstanding Graduate Student Award

Jacklyn (Jackie) Woods (née Whitehead) has been selected as the winner of the 2019 BMEGG Outstanding Graduate Student Award.  This award recognizes a student for outstanding: success in the class room, achievements in research, mentoring, engagement in BMEGG activities, community outreach and any other noteworthy activities.

Caitlin Banks awarded Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Predoctoral Fellowship

Caitlin Banks, a Ph.D. student in Biomedical Engineering under the mentorship of Dr. Carolynn Patten, was recently awarded a Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research. Her fellowship is co-sponsored by Dr. Carolynn Patten and Dr. Monica Perez.

BMEGG Outstanding Graduate Student Award for 2018

Zidong Li was recently announced as the recipient of the BMEGG Outstanding Gradate Student Award for 2018.  This award recognizes a student for outstanding: success in the class room, achievements in research, mentoring, engagement in BMEGG activities, community outreach and any other noteworthy activities.  Zidong is not only a productive researcher with multiple first author publications, he is also an inspiring leader in the international student community and a dynamic teacher.  He demonstrates the rare ability to connect in a genuine and productive way with many audience

Eric Berg Receives 2017 Munir Award

The College of Engineering’s Awards Committee has selected Dr. Eric Berg as the winner of the 2017 Zuhair A. Munir Award for Best Doctoral Dissertation.

Berg’s award-winning dissertation, “Detectors, Algorithms, and Scanner Technology for Total-Body PET,” focuses on developing a whole new paradigm for medical imaging.

Sara Sukenik wins 1st in ISPE Poster Competition

Congratulations to Sara Sukenik for winning first place in the graduate division of the 2016 International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) Student Poster Competition held in Atlanta, GA on September 18-21, 2016! Sara qualified to compete at the international level by first winning the San Francisco Bay Area ISPE chapter’s local competition. Her winning poster was titled “Modeling Monoclonal Antibody Production in Nicotiana Benthamiana Plant Cell Suspension Culture”. Sara is a Ph.D.

Professor Sue Stover receives AVMA Lifetime Excellence in Research Award

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has presented its 2016 Lifetime Excellence in Research Award to Susan M. Stover, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVS, of the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), School of Veterinary Medicine.

Stover, who received the award at the 2016 Merial-NIH National Veterinary Scholars Symposium, was recognized for her lifetime achievement in applied and clinical research, which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries, predominantly in horses, but also in small animals.

Chris Chapman receives NSF GROW award

Chris Chapman recently received the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program’s Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide (GROW) award.  The GROW award provides travel and research funding for international research collaboration.  Chris plans to spend the next year abroad working at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.  The title of his project is “Towards Translating Silver Nanowire-PDMS Composite Microelectrode Arrays to Intracranial Records Arrays: In Vitro Characterization of Neural Coupling and Recording Fidelity as well as In Vivo Insertion Design."
