Dr. Hull aims to develop improved surgical procedures for treating knee injury and disease. The Hull Group has invented a new surgical technique for total knee replacement and focuses its research on proving and improving the efficacy of the new technique by investigating kinematic and kinetic biomechanical variables characterizing knee function. The group uses both experimental and computational methods. They experiment on both cadaveric knees and the knees of patients who are undergoing or who have undergone knee surgery using advanced imaging techniques in radiography. On the computational side, the group uses 3D bone models from CT and/or MR images, simulates surgical techniques and improves methods for computing kinematic variables from radiographs.
