The Fyhrie Lab studies two main orthopedic tissues—bone and cartilage. Specifically, they are interested in the effects of mechanical loading on these tissues. Loads can affect the tissues in a variety of ways, including deformation and damage, which are then transduced into changes in cellular signaling. The lab is currently studying how loading affects orthopedic tissues and how disease, age and drug treatments influence the mechanical properties and composition of these tissues.
